Borde Hill Garden

| PLAY AUDIO |
“Colonel Stephenson Robert Clarke purchased the Tudor mansion, Borde Hill, in 1893. The Clarke family were patrons of the great plant collectors, or great plant hunters, as they were known. These brave travellers travelled to all corners of the globe – including the Himalayas, China, Tasmania, the Andes and North America – to bring back trees and shrubs. Francis Kingdon-Ward was one such explorer who made 25 expeditions during which he was impaled by a bamboo spike, fell off a cliff and lost for days without food. Despite all this he was still climbing and exploring at the age of 70. As a result of such efforts, we can all enjoy this world-renowned botanical collection surrounding by stunning Sussex countryside. A 17-acre formal garden flows into a series of linked garden rooms, each boasting its own style and character. Varied gardens are given evocative names like Allah, Azalea Ring, Jay Robin Rose and Old Rhododendron. Over 20 separate sections cover 160 acres, making this one of the country's largest gardens. Borde Hill also contains many species that are listed by the Tree Register of the British Isles as 'champions', meaning they are either the tallest or largest in Britain. This great botanical heritage blends successfully with a wide range of family attractions including picnic areas, fishing lakes and a Pirates Adventure Playground. ”

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value
to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio
guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey

Nikki, Cambridgeshire'
“The heritage commentary is really informative and entertaining – it’s great to discover
the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading
“This is the perfect thing for history buffs - RoadTour really brings boring car journeys to life.”
Guy,
